ONE - we are made of music (free download)

We are A-lone - We are AL-one.
Singularly and collectively we are ONE...

I wanted to create a song with very few words, yet be deeply reflective. In this track, the listener is really the person that creates the lyrics within their own thoughts. How can ONE be singular and collective and the same time?

I wanted to show the singular nature by having ONE voice, then one by one others added, eventually building to a unified group chant of 'ONE' - we are ONE.

Luckily for me, my birthday fell on a Wednesday, which is the night of Sound Medicine in Ubud. At Sound Medicine i requested (for my birthday present), that the group of 40 attendee's sing 'ONE', in the key of B. I struck the chime and the group sang 'ONE'.

The other lyrics in the song are: WE ARE MADE OF MUSIC... every cell in our body is vibrating, individually we are an orchestra of vibration. These vibrations in us becomes ONE vibration, that is our unique vibration... As we all have an individual vibration, humanity is also made up of seven-billion vibrating beings. Together we make an orchestra.

Go ahead - try it out, don't just listen to it with your ears... feel it. lay down - close your eyes and let your mind wander while your cells have a massage.

Featured on this track are vocalists Shervin Boolorian & Josephine Costain and Melbourne based textural/experimental guitarist Seth Rees.  It is also the track when the vibrating cymbal is used live...

DEMOs LISTENING SESSION (Aug 2014)

On the 2nd of August 2014, Shervin and I went to the jungle with my ipod and 24 music demo's I had created over June & July.

I requested that Shervin rate my ideas and compositions in categories such as: Sound Healing Adaptability, Relaxation, Originality, Popularity Potential, Lyrical Content etc.  The idea being the  album would have equal percentage of everything. Where some songs lacked in areas, I reworked them. This exercise was also to highlight the top 12 tracks, all which would eventually become PERFECT FREQ!

Buddhist BELLS from BANGLADESH

Throughout Perfect Freq you will hear the sound of various bells. These are Ghanta bells, collected on a trip to Bangladesh in 2014. They are also incorporated into the live performance of Perfect Freq.

Historically speaking, bells are very spiritually significant.

Apparently, the bells in churches and temples are a symbolic sound of what exists within each human being, but it's the higher tones that we can't hear that are doing the work. Some believe that when the Soul is near breaking through into the Pure Spiritual realm, the Soul begins to hear a gong sound, or "the big bell sound" as some refer to such a sound.

All of these sounds emanate from the "Word" of God, and the various sounds reflect the less than Pure planes one moves through as one rises in purity. The bells of churches and temples are intended as reminders of what we ought to be listening for in our meditation.

There's a saying, "Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings"? This is popularized in the movie from 1946, "It's a Wonderful Life" but is said to have been popular amongst children even well over a hundred years ago. Is there some link between bells and angels, possibly enabling their flight? Bells, chimes, jingles, cymbals and gongs are commonly said to be good luck and are often used to ward off evil spirits. Could the ringing of bells really exercise spiritual power, enabling some supernatural influence in the natural realm? While some believe and others doubt, there is a reality beyond superstition.

The Science Behind Temple Bells - Almost every ritual in Hinduism has a scientific reason behind it. Temple bells are no exceptions. Apparently Temples bells make a distinct sound that creates unity of the left and right hemisphere's of the brain. The moment a bell is rung, it produces a sharp and long lasting sound. They believe the echo of the sound from the bell touches the seven healing centres or chakras of the body. So, the moment the bell is rung, the brain goes blank for a few seconds and we enter a stage of trance. In this state of trance, the brain becomes extremely receptive and aware. Thus, when one enters the temple after ringing the bell, we become aware of our spiritual self.

“Perfect Freq” - Trillion  2015

Review by Mark Tupuhi.

Jody Lloyd aka Trillion Branson needs no introduction to those of us in the NZ Music industry. Jody once went under the moniker “This Litmus” and it’s a fantastic way to describe Jody. Jody is sort of like the conscience of NZ music and love him or hate him there's no denying that Jody voices many of our beliefs, cynicisms and fears about the current political, social and commercial world around us. His “Aspartame Song” called “Super size me aspartame” has reached over 45,000 hits on youtube alone and that's not bad for an indie label with zero corporate backing and completely self funded by Jody himself, check it out… https://youtu.be/Eep3PJ--Czc

He is one half of the “Dark Tower” duo, an epic conscious and “Natural Accent” rap act from Christchurch. Their Debut “The Canterbury Drafts” was released on Universal to critical acclaim in 2001 and was nominated for a “best NZ hip hop Tui. They spearheaded a national and then global movement of “Natural Accent M.Cs” that signified a movement away from the mimicry of L.A and New York style Gangsta Rap that has made any local hip hop kind of yucky and schticky, in my humble opinion. So Jody is no new comer and is an accomplished and industrious self produced artist in his own right as well as championing other independent artists on his “She’ll Be Right” label.

“Perfect Freq” is the latest release from his solo project “Trillion” and marks an epic change of pace from conscious, political hip hop to a more ethnic and organic sort of world music. Still very much hip-hop but with much more emphasis on feel than on lyrics or message. Its beautiful music and is a pleasant change from the earnest full frontal assault on the worlds villains I am used to from Trillion.

Jody has brought the focus back down to the individual listener and has made a selfless record purely for the benefit of you, the listener. He issued the instruction to find an hour and thirteen minutes of free time, lie down somewhere comfortable and listen to the album all the way through with eyes closed and with meditative type breathing. At first I was a little pissed off at this, who the hell is he to tell me how to listen to music?

But after I got over myself I realised that Jody was offering me a rare gift in this high speed, fibre optical world of instant gratification, he was offering me some alone time, to reflect and be still. So I did. I won’t lie to you and say I had an outer body orgasm and rapid moments of clarity that shock my very self to the core. What I did have was an hour or so of calm and some fantastic music to accompany it.

A lot of research has gone into the instrumentation, sourcing instruments that are traditionally used in healing and shamanistic practices around the world and combining it nicely with his own hip hop sensibilities. It is a wonderful journey through different tempos and ideas, where there are lyrics they are thoughtful and insightful and most of all they are conscious, awake and aware and willing to share with the listener. The first time I listened I fell asleep. It took me a few days to make the time to do it again and I didn’t begrudge Jody the time, I tried to look at it as a gift.

It culminates in the single “The Perfect Frequency of love”, a true masterpiece and one of those songs that an artist can work their whole lives towards and maybe only get once. Have a listen for yourself… https://youtu.be/Fb702tee8Rw So, there you have it. Its good, honest and pure Kiwi music. It is outside of the machine of corporate music and it’s ours, truly ours, not some striving American wannabe or some desperate, egocentric money making scam like much of our top ten radio shit lately. Nice one Jody.

I understand that there is also a documentary film in the final stages of production about how he has been living the last few years and he is busy doing gigs here and in Bali, where he has been based this past little while. Heres the link to get the album, do yourself a favour. http://www.perfectfreq.com
